About

At Eaton Socon Pre-school we believe that parents are their child’s first and most important educator, that children learn best through play and that children learn well in social groups such as family, friends, their childcare setting and the local community.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework 2014 (updated 2024), which sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. We also follow our own ambitious and progressive curriculum that has been developed with our children in mind. (see 'policies' for more information on EYFS and curriculum)  Both the EYFS and our own curriculum help us to explore important learning areas with your child, whilst taking in to account their individual abilities, interests and special educational requirements. We have special expertise in supporting and developing children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) with a designated SEND Coordinating Officer, please feel free to contact us to speak with our SENDCO about any aspect of your child’s development and care.

We encourage all parents to get involved in the everyday life of ESPS. We work with parents to develop the best approach to support and benefit their child’s overall learning and development. We also provide extra support services for parents, offering advice about a range of things including your own child’s development, children’s services within the local community and accessing opportunities to cover the costs of childcare.

Ethos, vision and values

Our Ethos

‘Everyone is welcome’ is the best way to sum up our ethos.

With a strong emphasis on inclusivity and individuality, we prioritise building positive caring relationships based on trust and respect with all children, parents, carers and staff. Through these relationships we are able to treat everyone as individuals and ensure that the children’s needs are at the heart of everything we do.

Staff recruitment and selection procedures ensure that all new staff undertake security checks including criminal record disclosure, references and qualification checks.

Our team also has a wide span of expertise and continually update their skills through Cambridgeshire County Council-provided courses. All staff are paediatric first-aid trained and we have specialists in Child Protection, Health & Safety, a Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator, an Equality Named Coordinator and an ELKAN-trained specialist in Communicating with Under-5s. The team also work closely with other childcare professionals such as Speech & Language Specialists, Occupational Therapists, the Early Years Support Specialist Team and Health Visitors.

Our Vision

We have a clear vision of what we want to achieve at Eaton Socon pre-school:

  • To provide a safe, happy, caring, secure and stimulating environment for all.

  • To provide an exciting, creative, ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all children. With emphasis on the social, emotional, physical and communication & language development of each individual child.

  • To enable all children to develop their capabilities as successful, independent, confident individuals, who make good progress and reach their full potential.

  • To promote a positive and memorable early years experience for all, through a wide range of enjoyable, enriching and effective learning experiences.

Our Values

Inclusion - We believe that all children are special and that each child and family is unique. We treat all children, parents and staff as individuals, giving freedom of choice whilst offering access to and encouraging participation in every opportunity.

Partnership – Working closely with parents/carers and other professionals is key to developing our knowledge of our children. Positive relationships between staff, parents and children allow us to be open, caring, supportive and reflective.

Reflection – we continually seek to develop the knowledge, skills and qualifications of our staff team. We set high standards for professional conduct and practice and aim to achieve excellence in all areas. We reflect on our practice as a team regularly and make any changes as necessary.

Respect - We respect all families regardless of social and economic background, ethnicity, abilities, sexual orientation or religious belief. We actively oppose discrimination. Children with special or additional needs are welcome and we will do all we can to fully include children with disabilities.

Wellbeing – Everyone’s wellbeing is paramount. We have an open door policy where staff and parents are always able to talk to a senior member of staff when needed. We are confident that our children and families are supported by fun, nurturing and caring staff that are passionate about their roles, who ensure our children have the best possible start to their early years education.
